“[I]n my opinion there is no greater example of Washington politicians and K Street lobbyists working against our future prosperity than in the treatment of student loan debt. To be clear, this problem existed even before the crisis; families have been taking on crushing debt to help the kids…
Beats by Dr. Dre Wireless Headphones →
Bluetooth technology, in theory, is awesome. No cords to get tangled up when you’re on the treadmill. No wires that you have to plug in to get your sweet jams from your phone to your ears. Unfortunately, in practice bluetooth just makes you look like the dude wearing the headset having a very loud conversation […]

Ignoble Stilwin Seedpod Backpack →
Somewhere between the blacktop and concrete world of Tony Hawk and the flying car future of the Fifth Element, there’s a guy that needs a backpack. In this case, Jansport just isn’t going to cut it. If you’re looking for something sleek and stylish that’s capable of taking a beating, look no further than the […]

Second: Well played, President Obama. Well played indeed.

A more progressive tax system makes people happier →
The way some people talk, you’d think that a flat tax system — in which everyone pays at the same rate regardless of income — would make citizens feel better than more progressive taxation, where wealthier people are taxed at higher rates. Indeed, the U.S. has been diminishing progressivity of its tax structure for decades.
But a new study comparing 54 nations found that flattening the tax...

– An excerpt from the Desiderata.
I really do try to remember to keep some perspective, in whatever form it may show itself, whether things are going well or not so well.
Today, for perspective, as I was moping around in a frustrated funk regarding the job, my mom texted with some news…

Banana Republic Mad Men Collection →
There are plenty of reasons other than Christina Hendricks to watch Mad Men. The dramatic storytelling, fantastic costumes and day drinking are just a few of the endearing qualities of the show that’s about so much more than the stereotypically misogynistic escapades of Don Draper. Dapper isn’t a word that we normally throw around, but […]
Anthropologie Eiko Cabinet →
We can’t remember exactly when it happened (probably somewhere around the time jobs started getting measured in tens of thousands of dollars instead of per hour), but we began to pay more attention to some of life’s finer things: a quality scotch or a nice vino, shoes designed specifically for “work” and well cut suits […]

The Trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance... →
For some reason, the sequel to Ghost Rider, which, by all accounts, was a horrible movie that barely broke even has been happening, and here is the trailer. There is a lot of fire in it. Including fire coming out of unexpected parts of Nicolas Cage. So, watch to the end, because there’s a joke there that you will either laugh at or would never believe if you hadn’t seen it with your...

"Economics for Dummies"
elizablr:
Yep. Bought that book yesterday to brush up on my basics.
Also bought Freakonomics.
If anyone has any recommendations on books to read or sites to follow to help me brush up on my economics/financing/market and consumer trends and the like, I’d greatly appreciate them all.
Is this for job skills, or to catchup on what’s going on with our economy?
Browns Evan Moore ready, lauds Colt McCoy |... →
shaneguiter:
Moore also touched on a change in Colt McCoy that he’s seen in the offseason workouts organized by the second-year quarterback.
“I think he’s himself now,” Moore said. “I think Colt is a natural-born leader. When he first got here, in hindsight I realized he was definitely uncomfortable not being the leader and not being able to voice how he feels about things and push guys in a...

1. Put the bar in the middle of the dance floor.
2. For centerpieces, scrap the flowers. Replace with airplane bottles of liquor.
3. Attach a bounty to the garter to encourage the guys to actually go for it.
4. Move the food budget over to the bar budget. You want food? Here’s the number for the closest Domino’s.
Im all about the boozing! Why have food? It just gets in the way of...

Officials in Britain and the United States are preparing to make controlled power cuts to their national electricity supplies in response to a warning of a possible powerful solar storm hitting the Earth. BTW, I have a job interview this afternoon.
elizablr:
They called me back Thursday afternoon.
Their first request for a meeting time was Friday afternoon, but as I was headed home for the cousin’s wedding, that was a no-can-do.
So I suggested this afternoon.
I was at work at 5am to unload our new shipment of goodies, I get off at 2pm, and the interview is scheduled for 3pm.
