Defensive Driving

lacey:

Since I got that speeding ticket at the beginning of this month, I’m going to take a defensive driving class to get it off my record and to pay less. I was researching where to go, and of course Austin has awesome selections. I will probably schedule with Happy Time Defensive Driving - it boasts “$35 includes ticket dismissal, insurance discount, free meal and parking, and a great time”

They even have a reviews section in which everyone says the instructor, Mark is hilarious. Here are excerpts from the reviews:

“I recommend this place to everyone. Don’t do it online because it’s cheaper or whatever, just sit it out, the “test” is so easy and he reads you the answers before hand. Trust me, I have taken it online before and it was WAY harder than Mark’s class!!!! The unlimited sodas kept me happy and I was extremely pleased with the fresh pizza and Caesar salad for lunch!!”

“What a surpirse! Mark was energetic, funny, upbeat and the time passed so quickly. We were treated to lunch at our location- County Line on the Water. Yummy chopped beef sandwich, tea & chips! Spent some time on deck watching turtles swim and then back to work.”

Anyone in Austin get a ticket recently? Anyone want to get a ticket and join me? Turtles, y’all, turtles!!

i ended up taking an online DD course two weeks ago. any reason why you wouldnt do that?

To all the people now complaining that deficit spending is bad

sassygirl:

Where were you when Bush started a war in Iraq AND pushed through tax cuts? Bush added almost 4 trillion to the deficit. That’s astounding when you consider the fact that he started with a huge projected surplus. And what did we get for that almost 500 billion in extra annual spending? Roads and bridges? Nope. Universal healthcare? Ha! No. High speed rail? No. A modern, world class electric power infrastructure? No. A crash program in alternatives/conservation/efficiency to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels? You’re kidding, right? A more powerful military? Enhanced security? Improved disaster preparedness? No, no and no.What we got for our extra 500 billion a year was exactly nothing. A bunch of that was because of taxes not collected. My tax break amounted to 2 carts of groceries while the annual benefit to the wealthiest amounted to approximately 4 years of private college. The rest was consumed in the sands of the Middle East, wasted, lost (who sends 9.2 billion dollars in cash into a war zone?) or otherwise pissed away.

i wish talking sense to the anti-obama (they are anti-obama, the person, they arent against his agenda or ideas) crowd was fruitful. i think the only thing to do is ignore them till they start using their guns, then we can just kill them.

This song was stuck in my head for like a week earlier in the summer. After a month of intense therapy in late June/early July, I was finally able to concentrate on other things. Then the link was sent to me again. Bastards.

I will not go at this alone for a 2nd time. You’re coming with me.

I hate you.

Two people from high school were arrested for rape!

Yes! I am doing so well for myself! At this rate I must be in the top 35% of my class in terms of Life! Simply by not getting pregnant or arrested for rape!

Caragh: Never did a rape nor got impregnated!

you from houston?

If you see intellectual history as a history of ideas, things are much clearer. Suppose one had to give a Martian a field guide to 20th-century Earthling ideology. I would broadly define “left-wing” as statist, collectivist, egalitarian (within a defined group, be it based on class, race, or nationality), enamored of the Romantic spiritualization of the political, and hostile to tradition, religious orthodoxy, natural rights, and Lockean individualism. I would define “right-wing,” particularly within the Anglo-American tradition, as pro-market, favoring limited government, respectful of religion and tradition, and protective of the individual and his rights. By any remotely similar definition, fascism belongs on the left — and, to date, not a single critic of the book has even come close to rebutting this basic point.

Jonah Goldberg (via sds)

Right on the money. The way “right-wing” and “left-wing” are generally understood is entirely erroneous.. When anarchists are viewed as left-wingers and Nazis/fascists as right-wingers, you know something went terribly wrong.

I’m reminded of this awesome video I saw a while back that accurately explains the political spectrum.

I’ll go ahead and post it.

(via randyhaddock)

i would say some of the misunderstanding comes when people like G.W.Bush and DIck Cheny, right-wing, start torturing people (not protective of individula rights), increasing government size and spending (those things dont favor limited government), and waging a ‘crusade’ in the middle east (not very respectful of religion) the lines tend to get blurred.

maybe putting peoples political beliefs on a spectrum is not the best way to do it.
